Learn the Facts about Fluoroquinolones Antibiotics

Learn the Facts about Fluoroquinolones Antibiotics

I WISH someone told me about the RISK of taking these antibiotics many years ago and its is my hope that this will help someone else have the knowledge so that can make an informed decision when they go to the Doctors.

Some of you have read my book Healthy Business, Healthy You Toolbox and have read part of my story and how I have had some extreme health challenges, and some of you have not. The short story is I have an auto immune health challenge and many of the health challenges I faced in my life are directly due to taking this family of antibiotics. One of my goal and mission is to take the tools I have received as I went through each challenge in life and to help folks have tools that they can use in their life toolbox that will help them have a better quality of life.

All antibiotics carry a risk of side effects, but fluoroquinolones are in a class by themselves when it comes to potential health risks.
So many of you have never heard of Quinolones so here is a little more info so you can be informed.

Quinolones
The quinolones, also known as the fluoroquinolones, are a synthetic, bactericidal antibacterial class with a broad-spectrum of activity. They inhibit the enzyme topoisomerase II, a DNA gyrase that is necessary for the replication of the microorganism. Topoisomerase II enzyme produces a negative supercoil on DNA, permitting transcription or replication so by inhibiting this enzyme DNA replication and transcription is blocked.

The quinolones has been used for difficult-to-treat urinary tract infections when other options aren’t effective, hospital-acquired pneumonia, bacterial prostatitis, and even anthrax or plague.

The FDA finally has issued a strong warning about this class in 2016.
FDA safety review found that both oral and injectable fluroquinolones are associated with disabling side effects involving tendons, muscles, joints, nerves and the central nervous system. These side effects can occur hours to weeks after exposure to fluoroquinolones and may potentially be permanent.

These are just SOME of the potential size effects so be sure and reach the side effects of each one.  Way too long to list here. Be also sure to watch the videos below.

Familiar names in the fluoroquinolone class include:
ciprofloxacin (Cipro)
levofloxacin (Levaquin)
moxifloxacin (Avelox)
There are also Ear Drops and Eye drops as well.
Here is the full list so you can familiarize yourself with them so you are well informed.

Surprise Wedding at my Book Launch

Surprise Wedding at my Book Launch

I made an announcement that we were breaking for lunch which I had prepared with “love”.  I wanted to make sure our meal was a high nutrient rich meal and I have to say “mission accomplished” so my heart was singing again knowing my peeps were adding wellness tools to their bodies today. Unbeknown to me my husband had different plans.  My husband Frank has been my unwavering supporter of every WISH I have ever had in my life.  We have been together for 29 years and this year would be our 25th anniversary.  I saw him in the back of the church as he slipped into his suit jacket which he had not worn that day. I said wow he has the tan suit on that I love him in.  Wait he has a suit on, he didn’t have that on before.  I guess he wants to look nice for our Lunch and Learn downstairs as we eat lunch is what went through my mind.  Then I saw him grab the mic and start talking.  For those of you that have the pleasure to know Frank know when Frank speaks you listen.  He isn’t a chatterbox like me…. LOL. So he started to talk about how we weren’t quite breaking for lunch just yet and that he had something to say.  He talked about his love for me and how this year was our 25th wedding anniversary, and he started to talk and walk down the isle. I sat down at the first seat and he came up to me while talking about renewing his vows to me.
IMG_0038

I thought how sweet of him and of course I would do that.  I thought that was his announcement and that we would plan to do that in the months ahead.  Well Frank had other plans.  I turned around towards the front of the church and there stood our cousin who performed other marriage ceremonies.  At that point I was STUNNED and SPEECHLESS which those that know me isn’t easy to do. OMG this was happening right now, we were getting married TODAY.    Today on the day my book was birthed I was getting married again to the LOVE of my Life, My biggest supporter of my WISHES coming true.  I had always WISHED to renew our vows and here is was making them come true. You can watch the ‘engagement and wedding’ on the video below to be our Virtual Guests at our Wedding.  The day was already EPIC and now our EPIC Love was being shared with our guests, I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house including mine.  I kept thinking “ I need my valor young living essential oil” to hold it together but realized I just needed to take in the moment and let the tears of JOY flow.  I also was thinking “Thank God I drank my Ningxia Nitro as I sure needed the sustained energy to ensure I had the strength and energy in my cells to stay standing as my who body was trembling with excitement.  I looked into my loves eyes and said “You look hot” as this is what I said to him 25 years ago to help him stop trembling and helped him not pass out.  He laughed and Christian started the ceremony.

Christian let the audience know that Frank gave him the original wedding vows that we used, that Frank and I wrote the entire wedding ceremony and gave them to our  pastor and deacon to perform our ceremony.  Boy I WISH they were here too with us so I asked Christian if I could acknowledge them right then and there.  So Buddy and Nick thank you for marrying us 25 years ago.

Buddy was my principal and teacher and Nick was Frank’s principal of his school and deacon in the church he grew up in. 1930757_31644554323_489_n

Christian continued with our vows and at one point I couldn’t even remember which hand was which, my head was spinning. After the ceremony our guests applauded when Christian announced I now pronounce you Husband and Wife… Again. Please Watch my surprise Wedding as my words don’t do it justice as to how amazing and EPIC the day was.

Transformational Mothers Day gift

Transformational Mothers Day gift

As I woke up on Mother’s Day in May 2013 little did I know I was about to get a gift that was transformational to myself and my New Jersey communities.

One year later on this Mother’s Day I also received an amazing gift.  I called Kathleen Koch and she informed me that she will be part of an amazing event that will help what I call “Sandy Caretakers” those that helps others recover after Sandy.  This event is an amazing gift to all those that have worked tirelessly to help our community recover so please invite anyone you know.

THE JOURNEY TO RECOVERY: Healing Ourselves While Healing Others

Here is an excerpt from a blog post I wrote May 2013:
I woke up before the boys did I watched the sunrise and decided to create a post on Facebook. As I was looking through the news-feed I came across a post about a Mayors conference link to a blog post on More Monmouth Musing. As I read the blog post my heart was singing and my eyes were filling up with tears of joy. It had been on my mind and heart to reach out to Mississippi and see who I could speak to who understood what we were going through and what we could learn from them to rebuild and restore. I always say surround yourself with experts those that have done something already, learn the easy way instead of the hard way. I was planning to host the Sandy Summit in June and interview our mayors and organizations as well as experts in their field of recovery from a natural disaster and here this very group was coming here the following week.

Kathleen Koch  and  her knowledge was a Mother’s Day gift to myself and our community.  Meeting her and the Mississippi delegation, comprised of former Congressman Gene Taylor and former mayors Brent Warr, and Eddie Farve and  learning from their  experience through natural disasters has been such a wonderful transformational tool in my life and also in the life and businesses of my NJ communities.

Kathleen Koch, author and former CNN correspondent is the founder of a project linking mayors after disaster to share lessons learned and speed recovery. A Bay St’ Louis, MS native, Koch has dedicated herself to supporting survivors of natural disasters since Katrina.  She is the author of “Rising from Katrina: How My Mississippi Hometown Lost It All and Found What Mattered” .  She was sent to Japan by the U.S. State Department in March of this year to deliver her message of Resiliency and Words of Hope to the survivors of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami of the second anniversary of that catastrophic event.

Here is the “Live with Laura” interview I did with Kathleen.

The other person I meet during this event leading up to the Mayors conference was Michelle Beauregard.
When I meet her over the bridge in Seaside Heights, I found out she was here helping my own local New Jersey communities.  So needless to say meeting her was transformational as well because she had the most amazing insight and resources to help our community with funding and helped our mayors deal with paperwork, systems, process that they had never faced in their mayors careers.

These folks I mention here are now family to me and I am extremely thankful for them.
Thank you for changing the world and making a BIG difference in the lives of others.  A special thank you for helping my community and state in recovery.

IMGP1493

It is my WISH  and actual DREAM that someone wakes up today on Mother’s Day that needs to connect with those that have been through a natural disaster, or an ‘extreme challenges’ and reach out to get help.  Having a support system of people that have been through ‘extreme challenges’ and have the tools and resources that you need makes a world of a difference in the recovery process.

My message to everyone today is Don’t give up.  You maybe going through an “extreme challenge’ right now and not understand how got get through it.  You will get through it.   You will be forever changed because of it.  “Challenges bring change” and it is my prayer for you that it will be transformational.

Here is a tool to help  your BREATHE.

A Day to remember September 11th

A Day to remember September 11th

Sept 11th 2001 is a day that we all will remember.

I had just dropped off my oldest son who was in 2nd grade to  school at 9 a.m. when I heard on the radio that one of the World Trade Towers had been bombed.  At this point no one knew exactly what had just happen.

I got home and turned on the TV. This is where I saw a commercial plane fly into the second tower.  I was horrified that this could happen. I was watching NBC and Katie Couric were interviewing live someone at the Pentagon, when he stated that he thinks something just hit the Pentagon. A commercial plane hit moments later they found out they too were hit .

At this point I was trying to call my husband  on the cell phone and the landline phone, the circuits were busy. I wanted to know what to do, should I send my youngest son who was in kindergarten to school or should I let him stay home, should I go pick  up my son who was in school? I was very scared, this all was happening so fast and we were not sure what was next. I ended up emailing my husband  to which a few hours later he got through to me. I told him to please come home to which he did.

When I found out that one of the plans  was American Airlines flight 11 out of Boston that the  hijackers flew the plane into the North Tower of the World Trade Center , I immediately thought of my cousin  who was an airline flight attendant for that flight out of Boston. We learned later that she did not get on the plane that day but that many of her colleague and pilot that she knew for many years died on that flight. All day I worried about her and my cousin  husband who is an EMT in NY. I tried all day to get my cousin  to see if everyone was ok but I kept getting a message, “Due to the emergency in the area your call can not be completed”. I tried to get her for two more days and then finally on Thursday I was able to get her on the phone. She informed me that her husband  was dispatched to the scene at the World Trade but he was having engine trouble. He got there after the Towers fell to the ground, which trapped many rescue workers. Thank God her husband  was safe as well as our cousin and a good friend of the family whom is a firefighter. The total loss of life of these attacks resulted in the deaths of 2,996 people,  2,606 in New York City in the towers.   Many families were suffering the loss of their loved ones but there is a huge positive reaction by the American people to help one another like I had never seen before.

Millions of dollars have been raised for the victims of this attack. People of America were unity as one family. We relearned who our heroes really are the men and woman who risked their lives to save others. In the past people fighting against praying
in schools, now you have many religions united as one to pray together.

I was so amazed to see so many religious faiths united under one roof to pray together, Muslims, Christians, Jews all united. People were upset that they had to wait 6 minutes in a fast food drive through line now people didn’t care about waiting up to 6
hours to give their own blood for the dying.
We wave our American flag in unity and with pride. We are proud to be an American.
People trying to separate each other by race, sex, color and creed
On Tuesday they were all holding hands.
On Tuesday we were all United.

Sept 11th 2011 also is another day I will never forget for two reasons. One it marking the 10 year anniversary but also because I took a plane flight with my husband which forever changed my life in many ways.

Like many Americans, flying on this day made me a little uneasy.  The thoughts going through my mind were about safety and remembrance. Little did I know, traveling that day would start the most challenging year of my  life.

Here is my story  Laura’s Story    which details my story of how after this flight it caused me to have a severe debilitating health challenges that left me unable to see, walk, work or function for over 7 months.

I  had great success over the past 20 years as a business coach and marketing strategist, but it wasn’t until my health took a downward turn that I realized I had to make a significant change in my life in order to continue my success. During this 7 months of dealing with excruciating pain and health challenges so unbearable I would just wish the day would end I felt compelled to document my journey to help others that were dealing with life challenges.

Through this journey I created a system that helped me overcome my severe debilitating health challenges , achieved my weight loss goals by going from a size 20 to a size 12, revolutionized my business and help me write my book in record time.   This system also helped my husband  who lost his job and got a job while using this system.

One month after the anniversary of 9/11/2012 Superstorm Sandy  ravaged our community.  I remember the day of the storm I was on a group coaching call and was using some of the tools that I had learned to help everyone with the feeling of ‘fight or flight’ as tree’s were falling all around my house and water was coming into my office.
I used many tools  to stay strong to help my community as well as  I  shared this system with Superstorm Sandy survivors  and many others to help them with the challenges that come with a natural disaster.

beach

Through each of these challenges it has also brought transformation and purpose to my life.  It is my hope that each challenge I have faced in my life and found  powerful tools that helped me overcome that challenge I can share with others and help make a difference in the lives of others.

This video is a memorial to the tragedy and a testament to American resilience.
It is a hopeful and inspiring reminder of the power of moving forward.
